Description
The goal of the proposed research is to elucidate fundamental genetic mechanisms of species diversification and to identify molecular pathways that underlie genetic incompatibilities. The research aims to identify cellular processes impacted by mismatches in genome composition, which can be important in human disease. The research will focus on the genetic and molecular mechanisms of pre-zygotic barriers, especially in the Drosophila virilis species subgroup, which evolves these barriers rapidly. The project includes studying gametic incompatibilities and hybrid male sterility caused by Y and X chromosome incompatibilities.
