Description
Endometriosis is a debilitating estrogen-dependent gynecological disorder associated with chronic pelvic pain and a myriad of comorbidities associated with systemic inflammation including elevated cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. We take an integrative physiology approach to examine the role of estrogens and LOX-1 receptor mechanisms mediating the increased CVD risk through parallel inflammatory mechanisms, and to examine two emerging interventions that have shown efficacy for reducing symptoms and long-term CVD risk in women with endometriosis. These studies have the potential to identify clinically relevant therapeutic targets and interventions to decrease CVD burden in women with endometriosis.
