A research project funded to study how gestational age at delivery affects lactation outcomes in mothers of critically ill infants, focusing on biologic measures and biomarkers to improve lactation care and infant health.
Description
This research project aims to determine the effect of gestational age at delivery on lactation outcomes using biologic measures including mother's own milk volume, secretory activation, and biomarkers in pump-dependent mothers of preterm and critically ill infants. The study targets the biology and physiology of insufficient mother's own milk among NICU mothers to identify evidence-based lactation care and gain new knowledge on biomarkers for managing lactation risks, ultimately improving infant health outcomes and health equity.
