Description
This research project will use the large number of protein sequences that have become available in the last few decades to learn the rules that give proteins their unique properties. These rules will emphasize covariance, an important feature in which the sequence in one region of a protein influences the sequence in another region, much like the rhyming words in separate lines of a poem or song. With these rules may help understand how proteins function in health and disease, and may one day help to design proteins that can be used as drugs or medical diagnostic.
