Research project funded by NHLBI to develop gene therapy approaches targeting molecular mechanisms underlying atrial fibrillation to improve treatment efficacy and prevent disease progression.

Description

This project aims to study the role of three major molecular mechanisms—autonomic nervous system remodeling, NLRP3 induced fibrosis, and derailed proteostasis—in the genesis of persistent atrial fibrillation (AF) using novel biological agents (genes) to target these mechanisms. Success could lead to therapeutic potential in managing this arrhythmia.
