The project includes backfilling, sealing, and potentially helicopter access, with a total contract amount of $135,640. The procurement was conducted through the Colorado VSS portal, with a response deadline of June 24, 2021. The project aims to secure hazardous mine openings to ensure safety and environmental protection.
Description
The Governor Basin Mine Safety Closure Project consists of safeguarding twenty-three (23) mine features including nineteen (19) adits and five (5) shafts. Nine (9) sites are located on land managed by the United States Forest Service (USFS) near the town of Ouray and within the Ouray District boundary of the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison (GMUG) Forest. Ten (10) adits and four (4) shafts are located on privately-owned land in Ouray County. The hazardous mine openings will be closed using methods which include backfilling, installing bulkhead seals, corrugated steel pipes, polyurethane foam (PUF), cable nets and grates. Many features are hike-in only and may require a helicopter to fly-in materials. The Ouray Silver Mines, Inc. has tentatively agreed to allow access for a helicopter landing zone to be defined during pre-bid.
