This project aims to explore the role of dorsal Mossy Cells in hippocampal circuitry and their impact on cognitive and affective deficits in Alzheimer's Disease (AD) using advanced neuroimaging and chemogenetic techniques. The study involves discrete circuit stimulation and in vivo calcium imaging to investigate Mossy Cells in the 5xFAD animal model of AD, characterizing their effects on hippocampal connectivity and brain-wide activity states, contributing to loss of function in cognitive and affective behaviors relevant to human AD.
