Description

This project aims to use big data to create estimates of the size of the population injecting drugs in New York, which will serve as a model for other states addressing the infectious disease consequences of the opioid crisis. Objectives include estimating the population size of persons who inject drugs (PWID) in New York using multiple systems estimation (MSE) with linked administrative and survey data, refining population estimates to account for biases, allocating estimates to all 62 counties in New York, calculating epidemiologic indicators such as HIV and HCV diagnosis rates, syringe program utilization, and new IDU cases, and disseminating findings via the AIDSVu data visualization platform.
