Description

This NIH-funded research project focuses on microbiome and immune development in HIV-exposed children. It aims to compare gut microbiome development in children with and without HIV exposure and growth stunting, define maternal and child antibody response profiles to enteric organisms, and link gut microbiome profiles to immune changes in growth-stunted children using a multi-omics approach. The project leverages biobanked and newly collected samples from a longitudinal birth cohort in Uganda and uses integrated multi-omics to identify mechanisms of growth stunting and immune development.
