Research project funded by NIAID to study mechanisms of CNS infection and immunity in congenital CMV using a mouse model, aiming to improve understanding and interventions for neurodevelopmental disorders caused by cCMV.

Description

This project aims to characterize early events of CNS infection, the role of antiviral antibodies in modifying viral entry, the control of CNS infection by innate immune responses, and mechanisms of altered cerebellar development following virus-induced inflammation. Results will enhance understanding of neurodevelopmental disorders associated with congenital cytomegalovirus (cCMV) and identify strategies to limit long-term CNS sequelae.
