This award funds a project to study early responses to radiotherapy and immunotherapy in rectal cancer using molecular, cellular, and spatial analysis techniques to improve therapeutic strategies.

Description

Developing optimal radiation and immunotherapy combinations is hindered by the limited ability to deeply understand therapeutic responses. This project aims to assess early biopsy tissue after short course radiation therapy to evaluate molecular, cellular, and spatial dynamics that could improve therapy nomination. The study involves performing single-cell RNA sequencing, multiplexed immunofluorescence, deep learning from histopathologic tissue, and analyzing immune response mechanisms to inform future therapeutic strategies.
