Description

This project aims to understand the biophysical mechanisms underlying electrical stimulation in the cortex using electrophysiology, pharmacology, optical physiology, and computational modeling in human and mouse models. It combines single-cell electrophysiology in human and mouse cortex, ex-vivo and in vivo, with pharmacology, optical physiology, and computational modeling to identify mechanisms underlying electrical stimulation. The research will test hypotheses about how direct local electrical stimulation induces excitatory and inhibitory neuron responses, and how parameters like intensity, frequency, and species affect these responses. Data will be used to develop and validate a neural network model to predict cortical responses and develop stimulation patterns for targeted neuromodulation therapies.
