The award funds research to develop new measurement tools for informal caregivers of people with Alzheimer's and related dementias, focusing on non-traditional caregiver networks to improve support and health outcomes.
Description
This project aims to develop and validate brief caregiver-specific measures to better understand non-traditional care partners (such as step-kin, non-marital romantic partners, step-children, siblings, and personal communities like friends and partners) of individuals with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (AD/ADRD). The research will include creating new computer adaptive tests (CATs) to assess caregiver function levels efficiently and accurately, using data from semi-structured interviews and large diverse samples. The goal is to characterize these non-traditional care partners, compare their experiences to traditional caregivers, and ultimately improve support and outcomes for these caregivers and the individuals they care for.
