A research project funded by the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute to improve diagnosis and treatment of sleep apnea and insomnia through genetic and phenotypic analysis using machine learning and large biobank data.
Description
This project aims to use machine learning for precise phenotyping in biobanks to identify genetic bases and subtypes of sleep apnea and insomnia, reducing phenotype heterogeneity and guiding personalized treatments. The approach combines healthcare biobank data with polysomnography and natural language processing to improve phenotyping accuracy. The study will analyze over 11 times larger sample sizes than previous genetic studies, develop polygenic risk scores, and identify patient subgroups based on comorbidities.
