A randomized controlled trial to test a paraprofessional peer-delivered support intervention for family caregivers of Alzheimer's patients to reduce psychological distress and improve coping skills.

Description

This project proposes a randomized controlled trial to test a 1:1, paraprofessional peer-delivered support intervention for family caregivers of persons living with Alzheimer’s disease (AD). The intervention, Peer Caregiver Navigation (PCN), aims to address caregiver deficits in coping skills, psychoeducation, and peer support to reduce anxiety, depression, and perceived stress. Building on prior feasibility and pilot studies, the trial will involve 466 AD caregivers, comparing usual care with usual care plus PCN, to evaluate effectiveness and understand mechanisms of change.
