Award to NEMOURS CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL, DELAWARE for the Administrative Core of the Delaware Comprehensive Sickle Cell Research Center to develop research skills, grow infrastructure, manage resources, and foster investigator career advancement in sickle cell disease research.
Description
The Delaware Comprehensive Sickle Cell Research Center (DE SCD COBRE) Administrative Core will be responsible for the engagement of investigators across multiple disciplines, the development of their research skills to impact sickle cell disease, the growth of the sickle cell research infrastructure, and the management of COBRE resources including compliance with all NIH policies, procedures and reporting requirements. The Advisory Committee, composed of both external and internal senior researchers, will provide review and oversight of investigator progress and the progress of the COBRE on its path to sustainability after the completion of COBRE funding. The Executive Committee, Internal Working Group and the Peer/Near-Peer mentors will foster the career advancement of investigators, filling specific needs in research development, project design and implementation, dissemination of results and targeting specific funding opportunities whether federal or philanthropic. The COBRE career development program will be based on the successful matrix mentoring model utilized in earlier COBRE funding. Strengthening of the Center investigator team will be accomplished through both recruitment of new faculty and the effective implementation of a pilot project program to fund investigators across multiple disciplines as they generate data for externally funded projects on their path to research independence. The COBRE will continue to build on its successful utilization of Delaware IDeA network resources to foster investigator development. By the completion of COBRE funding, the Center will have established an independently sustainable sickle cell research program, trained new and established investigators in advanced research methods, and improved the lives of children and adults with sickle cell disease locally, regionally, and nationally.
