This NIH grant funds a project to prevent suicide and self-harm by enhancing risk detection algorithms, evaluating adaptive treatments, and augmenting interventions with technology, focusing on diverse, low-income communities.

Description

The project aims to advance science and clinical care for preventing suicide and self-harm, focusing on reducing suicide deaths and attempts. It extends the Center treatment model “Screening and Treatment for Anxiety and Depression” (STAND) to target suicide and self-harm risk, especially in low-income, diverse communities such as East Los Angeles Community College. The project involves developing algorithms to identify indicators of risk states prior to suicidal/self-harm behavior, evaluating the effectiveness of data-driven treatment tiers, and augmenting STAND with a technology-enhanced intervention (TE-SPI) that includes safety planning, a digital app (BRITE), and caring contacts.
