This award funds a pilot study to test a remote exercise intervention for older men with urinary disease, focusing on feasibility, safety, and mechanistic outcomes.

Description

The project aims to evaluate the feasibility, acceptability, fidelity, and safety of a remote exercise intervention among 68 physically inactive older men with lower urinary tract symptoms attributed to benign prostatic hyperplasia (LUTS/BPH). The intervention includes personalized aerobic and resistance exercises supported by weekly coaching, biofeedback, and minimal equipment. The study will assess changes in LUTS, urologic and physical function, actigraphy measures, and mechanistic biomarkers such as muscle mass, mitochondrial function, and urine α1-microglobulin.
