Award for research on genetic influences on personalized functional MRI brain networks to understand psychiatric risks and network dysfunction in mental illnesses, funded by NIMH with $1.64 million.

### Description

This project applies a recent methodological breakthrough in functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to investigate genetic contributions to the organization of human brain networks, such as central executive networks, whose functions are critical to a variety of clinical and developmental outcomes. The project aims to identify genetic loci influencing personalized functional brain networks and their contribution to psychiatric risk, leading to insights into network dysfunction in mental illnesses and potential targeted neuromodulation guided by neurogenetics. The project involves analysis of datasets including the ABCD study, UK Biobank, and locally acquired data on 22q11.2 deletion syndrome. It includes twin heritability studies, genome- and transcriptome-wide association studies, and analysis of rare copy number variants. The project is funded by the NIH, with a total award amount of approximately $1.64 million, spanning from April 2026 to March 2028.
