Research project funded by the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute to investigate genetic factors that increase the risk of myocardial infarction in patients with coronary artery disease, aiming to discover novel therapeutic targets.

Description

This project aims to elucidate the genetic basis of myocardial infarction (MI) among coronary artery disease (CAD) patients, identify candidate causal genes, and validate findings using mouse models to develop targeted therapies. The study hypothesizes that certain genes predispose more strongly to MI than CAD alone, performing large-scale meta-analyses, whole-exome analyses, and functional validation in mouse models to identify and prioritize MI-specific genetic risk factors.
