Development and validation of an AI tool to improve diagnosis and management of acute pulmonary embolism, enhancing patient outcomes and reducing healthcare costs.

Description

This project aims to develop and externally validate an outcome-linked AI tool that reads CT pulmonary angiograms along with key clinical data to estimate a patient's short-term risk from pulmonary embolism. The tool will enable safer early discharge for low-risk patients, earlier intervention for those likely to deteriorate, and fewer avoidable complications and hospital days. If successful, the EHR-integrated tool can be deployed across health systems to improve outcomes, reduce costs, and promote equitable, evidence-based PE care.
