This award funds the Core B component of the BEAMS-2 project, focusing on human data collection and sample management to study microbial origins of asthma protection in Mexican American children in the US and children in Mexico.
Description
The Binational Early Asthma and Microbiome Study (BEAMS) Program Project takes advantage of two populations with shared ancestry but different environments to elucidate microbial origins of asthma protection. Core B for BEAMS-2 is responsible for completing data collection on subjects through the child's fifth year, ensuring standardized collection and processing of human samples, efficient transport of samples across the US-MX border, and providing infrastructure for sample management. This supports determination of longitudinal symptom scores, childhood asthma, and surrogate risk factors including atopy and lung function, serving all three projects proposed in the application.
