This award funds research to discover small molecule activators of the Neuropeptide S receptor to develop novel non-addictive treatments for alcohol use disorder by reducing pain and stress.
Description
The project aims to identify small molecule activators of the Neuropeptide S (NPS) receptor using high throughput screening (HTS) to develop non-opioid, non-addictive therapeutics that can reduce pain and stress in alcohol use disorder (AUD). Preliminary data show NPS peptide reduces nociception and drinking in rats. The project will screen over 650,000 compounds, followed by pharmacologic and medicinal chemistry assessments to identify promising drug candidates.
