The award supports a One Health approach to study and control soil transmitted helminth infections in India by integrating data and molecular techniques to improve monitoring and elimination strategies.

Description

This project aims to use a One Health framework to examine the interconnectedness between human, animal and environmental reservoirs of soil transmitted helminths (STH) by integrating epidemiological, environmental and qualitative research data with molecular techniques into species-specific transmission models to better inform monitoring and elimination strategies for this neglected tropical disease. The research goals include investigating transmission dynamics of STH at individual, household, and community levels, assessing impact of community-wide MDA on zoonotic STH transmission, and developing field-ready diagnostics for STH. The project leverages ongoing and upcoming trials in India to inform integrated control strategies combining MDA, WASH, and molecular diagnostics.
