Description

The project aims to delineate the molecular mechanisms whereby endothelial cell (EC) bioenergetics, especially glycolysis, regulate vascular redox status and vasorelaxation in physiological and pathological conditions, focusing on type 1 diabetes (T1D). It investigates how EC glycolysis, regulated by PFKFB3 and influenced by leptin, impacts endothelial dysfunction, a precursor to vascular complications in T1D. The study explores sex-specific mechanisms, including the roles of sex hormones and chromosomes, and the potential of targeting the leptin-PFKFB3-Nox1 axis for therapeutic intervention.
