Award to University of Chicago for the Data Stewardship Core to provide data management, quality control, bioinformatics, and data sharing services supporting allergy and infectious diseases research, emphasizing transparency and security.

Description

The Data Stewardship Core (DSC) for our AADCRC application will provide the Program with oversight and essential services that will support the two Projects and the Computational Genomics Core (CGC). The DSC will coordinate with the Administrative Core to ensure the successful completion of the Program goals. The specific functions of the DSC are: (i) Data processing (data quality control [QC] and cleaning) and data storage. The DSC will receive raw data from the projects and provide processed, cleaned data to the CGC for statistical analysis. (ii) Bioinformatic summaries of the QC’d data. The DSC will provide to the Projects QC summaries of their results. (iii) Uphold the highest standards for transparency. The DSC will be responsible for documenting and annotating codes for all data management and bioinformatics performed in the core and ensure the same is done for analyses performed in the Projects and the CGC. (iv) Ensure the timely submission of processed data to public databases (ImmPort, Geo, or dbGap, as appropriate). The DSC will coordinate with the Administrative Core to successfully implement our Data Sharing and Management Plan so that experimental resources (e.g., engineered mice) and analytical/computational scripts are made available in a timely fashion. (v) Ensure that all researchers within the Center receive appropriate information security services, including but not limited to: security awareness and training, risk assessment, security hardware and software to safeguard data, security monitoring, and establishment of information security policies and standards that align with industry best practices, through close interactions between the Data Stewardship Core and the University of Chicago BSD Information Security Office.
