The award funds research to study the morphological and kinematic changes in the subtalar joint following ankle fusion surgery in patients with varus-type ankle osteoarthritis, aiming to improve surgical outcomes and reduce secondary arthritis.

Description

This project aims to longitudinally evaluate how ankle fusion affects the form and function of the subtalar joint, especially in patients with preoperative compensatory alignment, to improve surgical strategies and patient outcomes. It involves quantifying changes in subtalar joint alignment and morphology post-surgery, assessing in vivo kinematics during walking, stair ascent, and descent, and determining the impact of preoperative alignment on postoperative outcomes.
