This award supports research on cellular membrane organization and lipid signaling, focusing on phosphatidylinositol 3,5-bisphosphate and its role in cell regulation and disease. It includes development of molecular tools and studies on related proteins, with implications for understanding diseases and pathogen interactions.

Description

Research focused on how cells organize internal membranes to assemble molecular signaling complexes for proper information processing, with emphasis on lipid composition of cellular membranes and its role in diseases and pathogen life cycles. Development of molecular tools to manipulate and monitor subcellular phosphatidylinositol 3,5-bisphosphate (PI(3,5)P2), study of sorting nexin 10's role in lysosomal ionic homeostasis, and investigation of plasma membrane recruitment of PI4KA by EFR3. The project involves collaboration with Canadian research groups and aims to understand and treat neurodegenerative diseases, infections, and other conditions.
