Research project funded by NIAMS to study the impact of the gut microbial metabolite butyrate on microbiome dynamics and methotrexate treatment response in rheumatoid arthritis patients, aiming to improve therapeutic outcomes.

Description

This project aims to understand how the gut microbial metabolite butyrate modulates the microbiome, influences methotrexate (MTX) metabolism, and alters immune responses to improve therapeutic efficacy in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). RA is a chronic autoimmune disease affecting about 1% of the global population. The study investigates gut microbiome signatures and host factors modulated by butyrate, assessing their impact on MTX response and metabolism to develop personalized therapeutic strategies.
