NIH grant awarded to Rockefeller University for studying the mycobacterial transcription cycle to advance understanding of bacterial transcription mechanisms and aid new antibiotic development.

Description

This project aims to characterize the transcription cycle structurally and functionally in the actinobacteria phylum, focusing on the pathogen Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The study will use cryo-EM and cryo-electron tomography to understand transcription initiation, elongation, pausing, and termination, and investigate transcription factors to elucidate molecular mechanisms of the entire transcription cycle, with implications for developing new antibiotics.
