Description

This project aims to generate data to answer fundamental questions about the role of metabolism in maintaining the viability of cells in cartilaginous neoplasia. It will lay the foundation for the use of novel targeted agents to improve clinical outcomes for patients with enchondromas and chondrosarcomas, conditions for which no effective pharmacologic therapy is currently available. The research will focus on the metabolic regulation of glycogen and cholesterol biosynthesis in growth plate and neoplastic chondrocytes, particularly involving the gene PPP1R3C and the transcription factor SREBP. The study will utilize cell lines from human tumors and genetically modified mice.
