The award supports research on engineered tRNA molecules to treat hereditary eye diseases caused by nonsense mutations, using transgenic mouse models to evaluate therapeutic efficacy and safety.
Description
This project aims to study the efficacy and safety of engineered transfer RNA (tRNA) molecules, specifically Arg-TGA ACE-tRNA, in rescuing disease phenotypes caused by premature termination codon (PTC) mutations in ocular tissues using transgenic mouse models. The research focuses on genetic therapy for hereditary eye diseases including retinal disease, corneal disease, glaucoma, congenital cataract, and retinoblastoma.
