Research grant to study the role of reactive astrocytes in prion diseases using a conditional knockout mouse model to understand disease progression and astrocyte function.

Description

This project aims to investigate the role of reactive astrocytes in the pathogenesis of prion diseases, which has been less studied compared to microglia. Preliminary studies suggest that phenotypic changes in astrocytes may contribute to disease progression. The project will employ a novel mouse model for conditional knockout of the Stat3 transcription factor in astrocytes to assess its impact on disease development and progression.
