Research project funded by the National Institute on Aging to study how aging and genetic risk for Alzheimer's disease affect decision making through neural mechanisms involving the basolateral amygdala and dopamine signaling.

Description

This research aims to identify neurobiological mechanisms underlying maladaptive decision making related to aging and genetic risk for Alzheimer’s disease. The study focuses on the basolateral amygdala (BLA) and its neurotransmitter systems, particularly dopamine, to understand how these factors influence decision-making processes. The project will use transgenic rat models and fiber photometry to examine the effects of APOE genotype (E3 vs. E4) and aging on decision-making behaviors and neural signals.
