Research project funded by NIAAA to study how specific neurons in the brain control alcohol-associated behavior and relapse, using advanced imaging and electrophysiology techniques.

Description

This project aims to understand the neural mechanisms encoding information about alcohol and associated cues, focusing on D2-receptor-containing medium spiny neurons (MSNs) in the nucleus accumbens (NAc) and their role in alcohol-associated behavior and relapse. The research will use microendoscopes and electrophysiology to study changes in D2 MSN activity and circuit connectivity during and after chronic alcohol exposure.
