The award funds research to develop novel MRI imaging markers to better localize seizure foci in drug-resistant epilepsy patients, improving diagnosis and surgical outcomes by studying brain biomechanics and perfusion abnormalities.
Description
This project aims to improve epilepsy diagnosis and surgical planning by advancing magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) and arterial spin labeling (ASL) as novel complementary imaging markers of the epileptogenic zone (EZ). The study focuses on drug-resistant epilepsy (DRE) patients to identify brain regions involved in seizure formation and propagation, investigating biomechanics-perfusion coupling and glial activation effects on tissue stiffness and perfusion.
