Research project to evaluate alpha-synuclein seeding assays in skin biopsies as biomarkers for Lewy Body Dementias, involving multiple labs and longitudinal assessments.

Description

This project aims to assess alpha-synuclein in punch biopsies of the skin using new seeding assay diagnostic methods performed by two independent laboratories. The study involves biopsying 90 subjects with alpha-synuclein disease and 30 normal controls over four years, with assays performed blindly and compared with immunohistochemistry. Subjects undergo cognitive and movement assessments at two time points, with many enrolled in the AZSAND study for neuropathological confirmation.
