This award funds the AIDS and Cancer Specimen Resource (ACSR) project, which provides biospecimens and clinical data for HIV-associated cancer research and supports related clinical trials internationally.

Description

The AIDS Cancer and Specimen Resource (ACSR) will supply biospecimens and clinical data to individuals investigating HIV associated cancers. It will also support the AIDS Malignancy Clinical Trials (AMC) by providing support for its biorepository functions in the United States, sub-Saharan Africa, and Latin America. The ACSR manages specimen collections from over 20,000 individuals and makes these biospecimens available to researchers studying HIV and cancer. It is structured into regional biospecimen repositories (RBRs) reflecting the US and global HIV epidemic, unified by an informatics infrastructure managed by the Hub for Integrated Informatics and Research Support (HIIRS). The project aims to acquire, store, and distribute tumor tissues and biological fluids from individuals with HIV-associated malignancies and promote the success of AMC clinical trials.
