Description

The goal of this research is to enhance understanding of alpha ketoglutarate dependent dioxygenase enzymes by studying Flavanone Synthase 1 (FLS1) and Flavanone 3-Hydroxylase (F3H), which produce the medically significant compounds quercetin and (2S,3R)-trans-taxifolin. The research aims to develop methods to study these enzymes' mechanisms and structures, using high-resolution mass spectrometry, isotope labeling, and X-ray crystallography. Findings will support enzyme engineering and biosynthesis strategies to diversify flavonoid production, with implications for human health and disease.
