The University of Florida will study how the nervous system controls swallowing to improve understanding of impaired swallowing and aspiration risk.
Description
NIH-funded research investigating the brainstem networks that initiate and regulate swallowing, including the sequencing and magnitude of upper-airway muscle motor drive. The project will use an in vivo animal model, brainstem recordings, electromyography, and computational network modeling.
