The project aims to develop an improved life support system specifically designed for neonatal and pediatric patients, addressing the limitations of current blood pumps such as wear, heat generation, hemolysis, and thrombosis. The system incorporates an innovative bearingless flux reversal motor (FRM) for use in a pediatric cardiopulmonary assist system (pCAS). The project involves extending the operating range of the motor to accommodate high pressure and low flow requirements in neonates and infants weighing between 5kg and 15kg.
