Description

This project aims to investigate the formation and function of Bone Morphogenetic Proteins (BMPs), specifically BMP2 and BMP6, in development and iron homeostasis. The research will focus on how BMP2 and BMP6 heterodimers and homodimers contribute to the regulation of hepcidin and systemic iron balance. The study will utilize structural modeling, Xenopus embryos, human LEC-hepatocyte cell culture systems, and novel knock-in mice to elucidate the roles of BMP prodomains and proteolytic maturation processes.
