This NIH-funded project studies brain fluid clearance and misfolded protein dynamics after traumatic brain injury using advanced neuroimaging techniques to improve understanding and treatment of TBI and related neurodegeneration.

Description

The project focuses on brain cerebrospinal/interstitial fluid systems, including the glymphatic system, in relation to TBI and AD. Uses neuroimaging (PET and MRI) to measure brain fluid clearance and amyloid-β deposition. Longitudinal study recruiting subjects within hours after TBI. No current gold standard for measuring brain fluid clearance in humans; uses multimodal imaging. Results aim to inform therapies to enhance TBI recovery and reduce neurodegeneration risk.
