Description

Cardiorenal health conditions, such as chronic kidney disease (CKD) and hypertension (HTN), are substantial public health concerns that contribute significantly to US health care costs and have developmental origins, whereby environmental stressors such as exposure to disadvantaged neighborhoods and nephrotoxicants (i.e., air pollution and metals) in utero and/or during childhood may disrupt nephrogenesis and kidney function maturation processes. Investigators will leverage data from Project Viva, a longitudinal pre-birth cohort, to examine how early-life exposure to neighborhood disadvantages and nephrotoxicants influences kidney dysfunction and blood pressure in later life. The study aims to identify urinary biomarkers and molecular signatures associated with these exposures and health outcomes, informing prevention strategies.
