The award supports research to detect and characterize cellular senescence in the human brain related to Alzheimer's Disease, aiming to develop new therapeutic strategies.

Description

This project aims to develop, apply, and validate new methods to detect and characterize senescence in the human brain, and to analyze large human brain cohorts to understand how senescence relates to Alzheimer's Disease (AD). The work will deliver the first validated framework to quantify senescence at single-cell resolution in the human brain, characterize senescence states and prevalence in AD, and identify regulatory networks driving AD-associated senescence. The research will generate fundamental knowledge about senescence biology in the human brain, define its role in AD, and provide validated tools and data for the field, ultimately aiming to develop precise, context-specific therapeutic strategies to target senescence in AD.
