Description

The objective of the proposed research is to understand physiological functions of the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling pathway in the brain circadian (~24 h) clock, the hypothalamic suprachiamatic nucleus (SCN). The research aims to elucidate fundamental mechanisms whereby mTOR regulates the function of the circadian clock, with implications for neurological and psychiatric diseases associated with disrupted rhythms and sleep problems. The project involves genetic and pharmacological manipulation of mTOR pathways and aims to contribute significant new knowledge about circadian regulation and sleep disorders.
