Research project funded by the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute to study the impact of fungal translocation on lung function and disease progression in COPD patients, aiming to develop novel therapeutic strategies.

Description

This project aims to understand how increased gut permeability and translocation of fungal products from the gut impacts lung function, respiratory symptoms, and disease progression in patients with COPD. It explores if the fungal cell wall product, 1,3 beta-d-glucan, has direct pathogenic effects on the lung and can be targeted as a novel therapy.
