Description
Technology Operations Core 1 (TOC1) of the ALS-ENABLE resource supports rapid macromolecular crystallography diffraction data collection. It involves collaboration among the Berkeley Center for Structural Biology, the Molecular Biology Consortium, and the University of California at San Francisco. The facility includes eight beamlines capable of addressing all structural biology projects. NIH investigators can request beamtime with a positive review, typically within a month. Access modes include remote operation, where samples are shipped and prepared by ALS staff, and fully automated data collection, which has been used in COVID-19 drug discovery efforts. Collaborative crystallography programs are available to assist less experienced scientists in structure determination, providing guidance from crystallization to publication.
