Description

This project investigates the role of placental serotonin (5HT) disruption as an indirect mechanism of developmental neurotoxicity (DNT) related to exposure to the pesticide dieldrin. The study aims to test two hypotheses: Aim 1: Dieldrin affects monoaminergic systems within the placenta, disrupting placental 5HT, which may serve as an additional indirect mechanism of DNT. Aim 2: Developmental exposure to dieldrin alters the development of fetal and neonatal monoamine systems. The research has implications for understanding how environmental toxicants contribute to neurodevelopmental disorders and diseases such as Parkinson’s disease.
