Award for Clinical Core to manage patient recruitment, sample acquisition, clinical data collection, and regulatory compliance for respiratory viral infection research in vulnerable populations, focusing on asthma and rheumatoid arthritis.
Description
The Clinical Core will be responsible for patient recruitment, sample acquisition, clinical data collection, and regulatory compliance for research projects in the HIPC Center titled “Systems immunology profiling of respiratory viral infections in vulnerable populations”. The core will identify, recruit, and follow pediatric and adult cohorts with asthma and rheumatoid arthritis, respectively, before and after acute respiratory viral infections. It will manage biological specimens, clinical data, and ensure regulatory compliance and human subject protection. The core leverages existing infrastructure of the CAUSE Network and the Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason. It will conduct longitudinal sampling of blood, nasal swabs, and sputum, and collect demographic and clinical data. Samples and data will be tracked in the BRI Sample Repository database. The core will also process samples and distribute them to research projects, genomics, and phenotyping cores. It will develop and manage study documents including protocols, IRB applications, and consent forms.
